The W0810 is a battery powered wireless temperature sensor using the SigFox IoT wide area radio network to report data back to the Comet Cloud interface. From Comet cloud, users can view and chart data and receive alarm notifications or download reports. The W0810 features an LCD display, a -30°C to +60°C measurement range and with an adjustable transmission interval from 10 minutes to 24 hours.

  • Measuring range: -30°C to +60 °C
  • Accuracy: ±0.4 °C
  • Resolution: 0.1 °C
  • Message transmission interval: adjustable 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 1hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours
  • Operating frequency: 868 MHz
  • Maximum transmission power: 25mW
  • Sigfox radiation class: 0U
  • Radio configuration zone: RCZ1
  • Free Sigfox connection for 1 year
  • Free COMET Cloud for 1 year (version for testing)
  • Typical range of transmitter: 50 km in the field, 3 km in the city
  • Power: Lithium battery 3.6 V, AA size
  • Protection class: IP65
  • Dimensions: 126 x 89 x 40mm
  • Weight (including batteries): 150g

The W0810 SigFox sensor measures the temperature every 1 minute, displays the readings on the LCD and and sends data wirelessly over the SigFox network to the Comet cloud data  store with with an adjustable time interval (10 min to 24 hour). Sensor setup is done either by computer (locally, by communication cable) or remotely via the cloud web interface.

For each measured variable, it is possible to set two alarm limits. The alarm is signaled by   the  symbols on the LCD display and sending an alarm radio message to the Sigfox network, where it is forwarded to the end user by e-mail or SMS message.

The device is powered by an internal Li battery whose lifetime is dependent on  the  transmission  range  and  operating  temperature  and  ranges  from  4months  to  8  years.  The  battery  status  information  is  on  the  display  and  in each sent message. The  Wx8xx  series  sensors  are  designed  with  increased  resist.

What is SigFox?

SigFox provides a cellular style network operator that provides a tailor-made solution for low-throughput Internet of Things and M2M applications.

For devices that need connectivity over long ranges the only option until recently has been to use a cellular connection. This option has several disadvantages because cellular phone systems are focused on voice and high data rates. They are not suited to low data rate connections as the radio interface is complex and this adds cost and power consumption - too much for most M2M / IoT applications.

The SigFox network is aimed at providing connectivity for a variety of applications and users. It is not aimed at one area, but at being for general use by a variety of different types of users.

The SigFox radio link uses unlicensed ISM radio bands. The exact frequencies can vary according to national regulations, but in Europe the 868MHz band is widely used. The density of the cells in the SigFox network is based on an average range of about 30-50km in rural areas and in urban areas where there are usually more obstructions and noise is greater the range may be reduced to between 3 and 10km. Distances can be much higher for outdoor nodes where SigFox states line of sight messages could travel over 1000km.

Comet Cloud

Comet Cloud is an internet data storage and viewing tool. You need a PC, tablet or smartphone with internet connection and a web browser to work with. Each sensor is identified by its unique address (sensor ID) in the Sigfox network. The sensor has an ID printed on the nameplate along with its serial number. In the list of your sensors in the cloud, select the sensor with the desired ID and  and start viewing the measured values.

Comet cloud features;

  • Long term data logging of sensor data
  • View data in tabular, meter and chart displays
  • Manage your attached sensors, configure alarms
  • Download data for further analysis
